Phoenix Suns guard Damion Lee had his first game back in his old arena, and that holds a special significance when that team won a title the previous year.

That’s what Lee did as a part of the Golden State Warriors, so since Lee couldn’t be in attendance for the Warriors’ ring night at the start of the regular season, he got his own on Tuesday.

Lee acknowledged back in late October that while his first matchup with the Warriors early in the season at home wasn’t going to have a ton of meaning to it, the return to the bay would be an emotional one.

It took Lee two seasons after going undrafted out of Louisville in 2016 to stick somewhere in the NBA, and he did in the 2018-19 season for his first of four years playing for Golden State. Lee was in and out of head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation in the last two seasons but was a trustworthy, smart player for Kerr to turn to when he needed him.

Lee signed with the Suns in the offseason and has been a similarly reliable fixture, this time in a more consistent role as a key reserve. His 3-point percentage of 48.0% leads the NBA.
