ASU DB Shamari Simmons ejected after hit in 4th quarter, to miss first half of next game

Arizona State defensive back Shamari Simmons was ejected after a hit he made on Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht in the fourth quarter of the Big 12 Championship game.

The ejection means that Simmons is out for the first half of ASU’s next game, which is set up to be a College Football Playoff game.

He will now miss the first half of Arizona State’s first playoff game.

Simmons sacked Becht with a big hit on a fourth down with ASU leading 45-10 in the fourth quarter. After further review, officials ruled that targeting took place on the play which gave Iowa State a first down and Simmons was removed from the game.

After getting up slowly following the hit, Becht left the game and was replaced by backup Connor Moberly. Becht went to the locker room for further evaluation before returning to the game.

The Sun Devils ultimately won 45-19 and will be headed to the College Football Playoff.
