Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez was named National League Player of the Week on Monday.
It marks his fourth career NL Player of the Week nod, all coming this season. He now marks the third MLB player to earn four weekly awards in a season, joining former Diamondback J.D. Martinez (2017) and Shohei Ohtani (2024).
In three games since returning from the All-Star break, Suarez is slashing .500/.583/1.700 with a 2.283 OPS.
Headlining his play to start the second half are his four home runs across the past two games. He now has six multi-homer games this season, the most in the National League.
For the season, he’s third in MLB with 35 home runs and first in RBIs with 85.
Suarez’s hot stretches have kept him in the conversation as a top trade candidate with the MLB deadline closing in.
On Monday, the fire was stoked even more when ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel labeled Suarez as the top trade option to watch with a 90% chance at getting moved.
Bob Nightengale also doesn’t see Suarez sticking around much longer.
“It’s hard to imagine Eugenio Suarez here just because he’s going to get a big contract as a free agent,” Nightengale told Arizona Sports’ Wolf & Luke on Monday. “Teams are willing to do anything to get him, so you can bring back a lot of pieces.”

Yep you lose your 1st baseman and 3rd baseman, both proven MLB players and you got what? Next year is NOT looking promising yet alone the next 60 games Im afraid. If anyone in the organization was as good, the two (soon to be FAs) would be for sure trade bait.
Yeah, the past two seasons, Suarez started out slow and tore it up in the 2nd half. Personally, I prefer that to hot in the first half and a DFA candidate in the last 2-3 months. I'm flummoxed as well - hope they keep him but only if the crystal ball says they make the playoffs as a result and have a good chance as a re-sign in the off season (despite Lawlor's hype, the guy can't stay healthy or hit MLB breaking balls).
My wonder is the legitimacy of his year long hot streak. He was almost DFA last year early and has NEVER been this hot. So while I would love to keep him because position players in FA work better than TJ pitchers, I am mixed here. Just as I was with JD. But JD had a better track record. I was hoping for a possible resign, but heck if we get some legit MLB players OK. But with Grienke and Goldy, prospecting in the Minors sucks.
