RBs DeeJay Dallas and Michael Carter among Cardinals 53-man roster cuts

The Arizona Cardinals have made a surprise move in filling out the running back depth chart while cutting their roster down to a maximum of 53 players by the deadline on Tuesday.

As first reported by Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, Arizona will keep a foursome of James Conner, Trey Benson, Emari Demercado and Bam Knight on the roster, meaning veterans DeeJay Dallas and Michael Carter have been cut.

Arizona also activated guard Will Hernandez from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, adding key offensive line depth.

First-round pick Walter Nolen III, pass rusher BJ Ojulari and defensive tackle Bilal Nichols were added to the PUP list, meaning they will miss a minimum of the first four games. Additionally, offensive linemen Hayden Conner and Christian Jones, plus linebacker JJ Russell, were moved to injured reserve.

Knight’s roster inclusion is the biggest surprise, leap-frogging two known commodities after ripping off a 67-yard run in the preseason finale.

The Cardinals continued making cuts Tuesday ahead of the NFL’s 1 p.m. MST deadline, with early leaks of cornerback Darren Hall and wide receiver Simi Fehoko getting released, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Fehoko’s TikTok.

Fehoko was a mild surprise given his strong preseason.

The news follows a cut of 12 players on Monday as the team aims to reduce its roster to 53 players.
