Diamondbacks C Gabriel Moreno scratched on Monday to attend birth of his child
The Diamondbacks inserted James McCann into the lineup to catch in place of Gabriel Moreno against San Diego.

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks scratched starting catcher Gabriel Moreno shortly before first pitch on Monday against the San Diego Padres so that he could attend the birth of his second child.
The Diamondbacks inserted James McCann into the lineup to catch and moved left fielder Max Kepler into the three-hole, keeping second baseman Ketel Marte in the clean-up spot.
Moreno is batting .298 this season with a .298 batting average and .818 OPS. He has started every game since the end of June at either catcher or designated hitter.
Monday is the first of four games against the Padres, and the D-backs will face right-handed pitcher Michael King.
Arizona entered the series one game ahead of its National League West rivals in the Wild Card standings.
