Corbin Carroll joins another historic club with 100th career home run

PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star Corbin Carroll collected another milestone on Wednesday, as he blasted his 100th career home run.

Carroll shot an opposite-field home run at Chase Field off Colorado Rockies left-hander Brennan Bernardino, becoming the 10th player to go yard 100 times in a D-backs uniform.

Beyond the raw home runs, Carroll’s power-speed combination put him on another list of his own. Carroll is the first player in MLB history with 100 home runs, 100 steals and 50 triples within his first 650 games.

Raise that bar to 700 games, and Willie Mays is the only player who joins him.

And Carroll has only played 606 games.

Taking out the steals, there are three players with 100 home runs and 50 triples through 610 games played in MLB history, per Sarah Langs: Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Carroll.

“It’s cool, a hundred feels significant, I would say,” Carroll said. “I feel like anytime you can do something where your name’s on a list with people like that, it’s pretty cool.”

“He’s just an absolute coach’s, manager’s, teammate’s dream,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “I look up on the big board, and I’m like a fan. I read everything that pops up there. When he’s being compared to Willie Mays, you know you’re around somebody really special.”

Carroll has been grinding to get out of a slump that started around the end of June. He has hit home runs in consecutive games for the first time since June 9 and extended his league lead in triples with his 14th on Wednesday.

The Diamondbacks need him and fellow star Ketel Marte to get rolling, and this week has provided some big moments for the duo so far — despite a frustrating series loss to Colorado. They both went yard in the first inning on Tuesday.

“I think we’d obviously like to be playing a lot better,” Carroll said. “So, just gotta keep working. Good to see a few balls start to be hit the right way.”
