PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated relief pitcher Drey Jameson from the 15-day injured list and designated long reliever Zack Littell for assignment before Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Jameson (right hip inflammation) was scheduled to make his next rehab appearance for Triple-A Reno on Sunday, but the Diamondbacks needed the extra arm after Littell’s extended outing on Saturday.
Littell signed with the D-backs on Aug. 10 to provide length out of the bullpen, and his debut went great with 4.2 scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies.
His next two outings were not so effective, as he let in 10 earned runs over 7.1 innings. On Saturday, he ate 3.2 innings after Michael Soroka’s short start, but by allowing four runs, Littell did not give the Diamondbacks many opportunities to chip away at the Reds’ lead in an 11-5 defeat.
Jameson has not pitched for the Diamondbacks since July 19, and he has made two rehab appearances with Reno and others in Bridge League games.
The right-hander has made 11 major league appearances this season with a 4.67 ERA.
The rubber match between the Diamondbacks and Reds begins at 1:10 p.m. MST on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app. The television broadcast will be streamed on Peacock.
