Cardinals lean on Jeremiyah Love in loss to 49ers

After splitting touches with Tyler Allgeier the first two weeks, Arizona Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love got the bulk of the workload in Sunday’s 36-30 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

The rookie reached 100 scrimmage yards for the first time in his career. He recorded 90 yards on 21 carries and added 19 yards and a touchdown on five catches.

Veteran running back Tyler Allgeier had just two carries for negative yardage. He caught four passes for 10 yards.

For everyone wanting Love to take over Arizona’s backfield, he did just that on Sunday.

Jeremiyah Love got the rock early and often vs. the 49ers

Through the first half, Love paced Arizona’s run game with 10 carries for 49 yards. He averaged 4.9 yards per carry with a long of eight yards. Allgeier had four catches to Love’s three.

Love was even more of the focal point in the second half, scoring his second NFL touchdown on a one-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Entering play this week, Allgeier (26) had more touches than Love (25). The veteran also saw more offensive snaps (76) than the rookie (52).

After this week, it’s Love with a clear lead in touches.

The rookie’s upped usage couldn’t get Arizona back in the win column, however.
