The NFL announced that referee Jeff Seeman was suspended for two games after Seeman was caught on camera apparently yelling a profanity toward Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride multiple times during an exchange on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
The suspension was issued by NFL vice president of officiating Ramon George for “unprofessional conduct toward a player.”
The incident occurred during the fourth quarter of a game between the Cardinals and New York Giants, right after a third-down incompletion intended for McBride. There was contact on the play, and McBride expressed his displeasure in the non-call that forced Arizona to punt.
McBride smiled and pointed to the television camera after Seeman seemingly cursed at the tight end at least twice.
NFLPA executive director JC Tretter called on the league to hold its official accountable.
“This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable,” Tretter wrote on X. “Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard.”
The NFL said it is reviewing the situation in which an official appears to use profanity at Cardinals TE Trey McBride.
