Inciarte’s bat gives Diamondbacks series win over Padres: By the Numbers

Tied at two in the the seventh inning, Ender Inciarte once again came through for the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday afternoon at Petco Park.

The D-backs right fielder took San Diego Padres starter James Shields deep for the second time — a two-run shot to right field that gave the D-backs a 4-2 lead and the eventual win.

Earlier in the game, Inciarte hit a solo home run in the fifth inning that put Arizona up 2-0.

David Peralta got the Diamondbacks on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run to center. The Padres responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jhoulys Chacin picked up his second win of the year after coming in for relief of Zack Godley in the fourth. Chacin ended the day pitching three innings while giving up two runs on three hits. He struck out four and walked one.

Godley pitched three innings while giving up just two hits. He struck out three and walked two. Randall Delgado came in for relief of Chacin and pitched an inning. He was followed by Daniel Hudson who then gave way to Brad Ziegler. Ziegler pitched the ninth to pick up his 29th save and give the D-backs a series victory.

Inciarte drove in three of the Diamondbacks four runs Sunday.

Sunday’s win gave the Diamondbacks a 40-41 record away from Chase Field for the year. The D-backs will close out the season beginning Tuesday with a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies. Heading into the final homestand, the Diamondbacks are 35-40 at home.

With his two home runs Sunday, Inciarte has six on the year, two more than his four last year in his first season.

The Diamondbacks finish the season with a 9-10 record against the Padres.

All of the D-backs four runs came from the long ball with three home runs total.

Heading into Tuesday’s series with Rockies, the Diamondbacks are 36-37 against divisional rivals and will have a chance to secure a winning record within the National League West.

With six games left in the season, the D-backs have a chance to close out the 2015 season at .500 with sweeps over the Rockies and the Houston Astros.
