By the numbers: Cardinals’ Week 8 win over the Dolphins

TEMPE — The Arizona Cardinals sit atop the NFC West after a 28-27 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 8.

But what stood out from Arizona’s fourth win of the season?

A behind-the-numbers look at how the Cardinals got it done in Miami:

Weathered the storm

Thanks to Sunday’s late heroics, the Cardinals have now come back from at least a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter twice. That’s tied for the most such wins in a single season in franchise history.

Arizona is also the only team in the NFL this year to win at least three games where it trailed headed into the final quarter.

Zeroes on the board

The Cardinals did not lead for a single second in Sunday’s win.

On the flip side, the Dolphins held a lead for 55:15.

As they say, it’s not how you start, but how you finish.

The only (K)1

Murray marks the only quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards and record multiple passing touchdowns against the Dolphins’ stingy pass defense this year.

Before Week 8, Miami had allowed three scores through the air and were giving up just 154.5 passing yards per game.

Staying upright

For a third straight game, the Cardinals offensive line did not allow a sack on Murray.

It marks the first time since 1975 that Arizona hasn’t given up a sack in a three-game stretch.

Heading into Week 9, only the Buffalo Bills (10) have allowed fewer sacks than the Cardinals (11).

Both Murray and the line deserve a lot of credit in this department.

Goal-to-go

With a pair of touchdowns in goal-to-go situations in Week 8, the Cardinals are now a perfect 11-for-11 in those moments.

They are the only NFL team to score a touchdown on each of their 11 goal-to-go possessions.

Doubled down

For the first time all season, Miami’s defense watched a pair of pass catchers in Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison Jr. put up at least 100 yards in a single game.

Before Sunday’s tilt, the Dolphins had allowed just one player (Seattle’s DK Metcalf in Week 3) to reach at least 100 yards in a single game.

McBride now has three games with at least 100 yards in 2024, while Harrison is up to two.

Tackling tandem

Sunday marked the first time safeties Budda Baker (12) and Jalen Thompson (11) each recorded double digit tackles in the same game.

Thompson also set a new career high in the victory.

Good Gilly

Across the past two games, punter Blake Gillikin has placed six of his seven punts inside the 20-yard line.

He’s now averaging 48.3 yards per punt after posting a 53-yard average against the Dolphins.

Still perfect

Gannon is now a perfect 3-for-3 on challenges across his two-year coaching career after tossing the red flag in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s win.

On the season, he’s 2-for-2.
