GCU partners with Arizona’s Family to provide free over-the-air TV coverage

Grand Canyon University and Arizona’s Family announced a partnership on Wednesday establishing the network as the home of GCU Athletics.

Coverage will include free over-the-air broadcasts of men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and women’s volleyball home games on 3TV, CBS 5 and Arizona’s Family Sports.

“This partnership places our programs alongside Arizona’s most prominent sports brands while ensuring our games are available free to fans in nearly 2.8 million households,” GCU athletic director Jamie Boggs said in a release. “It is an incredible opportunity to showcase the energy of GCU and connect even more deeply with our community, alumni and the state’s sports fans.”

The partnership focuses on home contests. Its first broadcasted event will be on Friday when the women’s volleyball team opens its season against Long Island.

With Grand Canyon being a new member of the Mountain West, national broadcast partners CBS and FOX will have first dibs to select games for the two networks and their respective CBS Sports Network and FS1 subsidiaries.

Any games not selected for national broadcasts will then be eligible for Arizona’s Family telecasts.

Arizona’s Family also has partnerships with the Phoenix Suns and Mercury, Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Rising and Arizona Interscholastic Association. GCU’s broadcast rights previously belonged to Fox 10.
