GCU’s win streak snapped with OT loss to Abilene Christian in regular season finale

ABILENE, Texas (AP) — Hunter Jack Madden scored 17 points as Abilene Christian beat GCU 82-81 in overtime on Saturday.

Madden also had seven rebounds and four steals for the Wildcats (16-15, 8-8 Western Athletic Conference). Bradyn Hubbard scored 16 points and added eight rebounds. Quion Williams shot 6 of 16 from the field and 3 for 4 from the line to finish with 15 points, while adding five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

JaKobe Coles finished with 17 points and three steals for the Antelopes (23-7, 13-3). Ray Harrison added 16 points for Grand Canyon. Lok Wur had 14 points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

The loss ended a six-game winning streak for the ‘Lopes, and it was their first overtime loss of the decade after winning five previous.

GCU had clawed back from an 11-point first-half deficit to tie the game at halftime and led by as much as eight in the second half before a 16-3 run put ACU back in front by five with 3:17 remaining.

Harrison gave GCU the lead in the final minute of overtime with two free throws, but he pushed off on a drive on the next possession and fouled out. A shooting foul on the ensuing possession gave ACU free throws for the lead and the ‘Lopes missed a prayer at the buzzer.

‘The Lopes clinched the No. 2 seed in the WAC tournament but do not yet know their opponent, with multiple teams still able to finish at No. 7.
