NCAA Tournament: No. 13 Grand Canyon to face No. 4 Maryland in Round of 64

The Grand Canyon Antelopes secured a No. 13 seed and will play No. 4-seeded Maryland in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament on Friday.

Bryce Drew’s team will play in the West Region in Seattle.

If the Antelopes can pull off the upset over Maryland, they will face either No. 5 Memphis or No. 12 Colorado State on Sunday in Seattle.

The Florida Gators earned the No. 1 seed in the region, who will face No. 16-seeded Norfolk State.

The winner between No. 8 UConn and No. 9 Oklahoma will face the winner of the Florida vs. Norfolk State game.

The tip-off time for Grand Canyon against Maryland is on Friday at 1:35 p.m. MST on TBS.

Grand Canyon earned the WAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by beating top-seeded Utah Valley in the WAC Tournament finals Saturday night, 89-82.

Senior forward JaKobe Coles earned the WAC Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player for his play in GCU’s three games beginning in the quarterfinals. He averaged 19.7 points and 3.7 rebounds while draining 4 of 11 three-pointers and knocking down 15 of 17 free throws across 86 total minutes.

Coles was joined by graduate Tyon Grant-Foster as First Team All-WAC selections. Duke Brennan, a native of Chandler, Arizona, was named Second Team All-WAC and WAC All-Defensive team.

The ‘Lopes won the tournament for the third consecutive season and look to build on last year’s Round of 64 upset over No. 5-seed Saint Mary’s. Grand Canyon lost in the Round of 32 to No. 4 Alabama.

Grand Canyon has made the NCAA Tournament four of the past five seasons.
