Emiliano Grillo’s slam dunk ace gets No. 16 jumping at WM Phoenix Open

SCOTTSDALE — The loudest hole in golf lived up to its name during Round 2 of the 2025 WM Phoenix Open on Friday.

All credit belongs to Emiliano Grillo, who on Friday gave golf fans their full money’s worth with an incredible 360-degree slam dunk hole-in-one.

Yes, you read that right.

The shot on No. 16 marked the 12th ace recorded on the famous hole.

It also looked reminiscent of Tiger Woods’ slam dunk from 1997. “Oh! It went in!”

And much like Woods’ dunking, the fans showered the pro (and the hole) with beers and cheers.

When was the last ace on No. 16 at the WM Phoenix Open?

The last time an ace happened was back in 2022 when both Sam Ryder and Carlos Ortiz completed the feat.

The tournament runs through Sunday. Thomas Detry currently paces the field at 12-under following an impressive 7-under second round. Right behind him is Alex Smalley at 10-under.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler also made a move up the leaderboard on Friday behind a 5-under second round. Scheffler was bogey free on Friday and sits tied for eighth place.

It’s Beau Hossler, though, who is leading the second round behind an 8-under mark.
