Spoke too soon: Cal online store touts team’s ‘3-0’ record

The California Golden Bears began the 2014 season with two straight wins and looked like they’d get a third halfway through Saturday’s matchup with the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson.

Cal dominated the first half, racing out to a 28-6 lead. But even though the home team got back in the game, the Golden Bears took a 15-point lead with 5 minutes, 21 seconds left as Khalfani Muhammad ran it to the end zone for his second touchdown of the final quarter.

Arizona came back with two touchdowns in less than three minutes of game time to trail by just 2 points, but a Cal win looked to be intact as the Wildcats got the ball with just 52 seconds left on their own 30-yard line.

The people who run Cal’s online store apparently thought a win was in the bag, as they updated their site with a celebratory discount and touting the team’s new record. ESPN business reporter Darren Rovell tweeted out a screenshot Sunday morning of what the Cal online team shop looked like the night before.

Too bad this happened.

So much for 3 and 0.

But, hey, Golden Bears fans were wondering if the discount still stands. Apparently, it is, after all.
