A closer look: D-backs fall to Rockies in 13

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ October 1 loss against the Rockies. Final score: Rockies 7, Diamondbacks 5.

The Good:

Wade Miley had a solid start, allowing just three runs over the course of 7.2 innings pitched, with no walks and 10 strike outs. He also did something that you will rarely see at a ballpark, he struck out the side on nine pitches in the third inning. However, he gave up two runs in the eighth and was unable to earn his 17th win of the season.

Paul Goldschmidt hit a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning that sent the game into extras.

The Bad:

The Diamondbacks allowed four runs in the top of the 13th, to put a victory well out of reach.

They also had the bases loaded, down three runs in the bottom of the thirteenth, but were only able to come up with one run, even with the tying run on first.

Noted:

Wade Miley set the D-backs record for most starts in a single season for a rookie.

The final game time was four hours and 15 minutes.
