Arizona Diamondbacks southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez put his previous start behind him to hold the Philadelphia Phillies to three runs on five hits in 5.1 innings on Sunday.

Rodriguez struck out lead-off hitter Trea Turner in five pitches, a sign of things to come as he would finish with 10 punchouts. He has had double-digit strikeouts 11 times before, including 12 on April 5, his best mark in a Diamondback uniform.

Bryce Harper was the next hitter up and he made it count with a 362-foot solo shot to left. Rodriguez was sure to make the strikeouts the prevailing occurrence on the day, rather than runs.

He wasn’t spotless the rest of the way, as Philadelphia had at least one baserunner in all but one inning.

However, he got J.T. Realmuto to fly out when runners were on second and third with two outs and worked two inning-ending strikeouts to stay out of danger.

Juan Morillo gave up a three-run homer to Weston Wilson, the first batter he faced, after replacing Rodriguez in the sixth. Two of the runs were tacked on to Rodriguez’s total leaving him with four total runs allowed and three earned on his day.

It was a major bounce-back after the New York Mets roughed up Rodriguez for eight earned runs on nine hits in four innings with just one strikeout on Tuesday.
