Phillies lose to Brewers, fall to 3 games ahead of Diamondbacks for NL Wild Card spot

The Milwaukee Brewers shut down the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, 4-1, which meant no matter how the rest of the evening’s games unfolded, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ postseason hopes would remain alive until at least Thursday.

The D-backs entered Wednesday with the possibility of getting eliminated from playoff contention with a loss paired with wins by Philadelphia (87-71) and the San Diego Padres (87-70).

The Phillies’ loss paired with an Arizona 5-3 win over Colorado kept their magic/tragic numbers at two with four games left.

Christian Yelich and Brice Turang hit solo home runs for Milwaukee on Wednesday.

The Phillies scored their only run in the second inning after loading the bases with no outs against Brewers starter Logan Henderson. Henderson allowed four hits and one run over five innings to help the NL Central-champion Brewers win their 99th game of the season.

The Phillies have one more game against Milwaukee before hosting the Tampa Bay Rays over the final weekend.
