Corbin Carroll ties Stephen Drew’s franchise record with bases-clearing triple vs. Twins

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll matched Stephen Drew (2006-12) for the franchise’s most career triples on Friday against the Minnesota Twins.

His 52nd career three-bagger came in just his 577th game since Carroll made his MLB debut in 2022. In a 9-5 win over Minnesota, Carroll notched four RBIs, went 3-for-4 with two extra-base hits and scored a run.

“It felt good, especially there in that situation. Give us some breathing room after they responded late. I’m happy to do it,” Carroll told reporters postgame.

The speedy outfielder reached the milestone of 50 triples on May 24 against the Colorado Rockies, during a game in which he had four hits and two triples.

Carroll has notched five multi-triple games in his short yet blazing hot career, one that manager Torey Lovullo has had a front-row seat for in its entirety.

“It’s awesome. I know Stephen Drew, I coached him. I’ll have to call him and let him know a really special player passed him by. So it’s pretty cool,” Lovullo said. “What can you say about Corbin that hasn’t already been said? He’s an amazing athlete.”

Carroll is one of just four active MLB players to have at least 50 career triples, with Mike Trout (55), Starling Marte (55) and Andrew McCutchen (50) being the other three. As the D-backs outfielder is in his fourth full MLB campaign, Trout, Marte and McCutchen have each at least 15 years of action.

It only took Carroll 537 games to achieve 50 triples and 80 home runs. The only player to accomplish this feat in fewer games is Lou Gehrig (1923-1939), who did so in 461.
