Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll, Eduardo Rodriguez selected to the All-Star Game
Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll is going to the All-Star Game for the third time in his career, while Eduardo Rodriguez will be a first-time participant.

PHOENIX — Major League Baseball announced the rosters for the 2026 All-Star Game on Saturday, and Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll and pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez will represent the club in Philadelphia on July 14.
This is the third season out of the last four in which the D-backs will send multiple All-Stars.
Arizona’s selectees have experienced very different paths to this honor.
Carroll becomes a three-time All-Star in four major league seasons, excluding his cup of coffee at the end of 2022. He is the seventh player in franchise history to make the Midsummer Classic on three occasions, joining a list of Randy Johnson, Luis Gonzalez, Brandon Webb, Paul Goldschmidt, Zack Greinke and Ketel Marte.
For Rodriguez, this is his first All-Star selection in 11 seasons since he debuted in 2015. Rodriguez has put together several strong seasons — finishing sixth for the AL Cy Young award in 2019 — but he had never jumped into the prestigious tier of All-Star starting pitcher.
“It means a lot to me because I’ve been in this game for quite a long time,” Rodriguez said. “To have the opportunity to go to the All-Star Game for the first time, it’s just something amazing.”
Corbin Carroll returns to the All-Star Game
Carroll was a no-doubt All-Star this season, although he was not picked to start the game via the fan vote.
Outfielders Brandon Marsh (Phillies), Juan Soto (Mets) and Andy Pages (Dodgers) were voted to start for the National League. Reserves and pitchers were picked by player ballots and the commissioner’s office.
Carroll has consistently been one of the top-10 hitters in the NL by OPS until a recent nine-game funk, which has dropped his numbers to a still-excellent .268/.357/.511.
He leads Major League Baseball with 10 triples, having broken the D-backs’ all-time triples record this season with his 53rd in the uniform. Carroll has added 13 home runs, 17 doubles, nine stolen bases and 3.4 wins above replacement (FanGraphs), which ranks fourth among NL hitters.
“I’ve enjoyed when I’ve gotten to go in the past,” Carroll said. “I just know what a great experience it is, what a great celebration of baseball it is. Really excited for it and thankful to the team that’s gotten me there this year.”
Even after Carroll suffered a broken hamate that required right-hand surgery at the start of spring training, he returned in time for Opening Day and did not take long to start producing.
“For me, it’s a couple different stages,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “He got injured. He missed a lot of the spring. We were all curious about what it’s going to look like when he comes back. I know we all were reading the same thing about how the power goes away. Well, he’s different. He started to prove to us quickly that he was ready for another amazing offensive season.”
Carroll is the only player in Diamondbacks history to make the All-Star Game three times by the age of 25.
He was Arizona’s first-round pick in 2019 and eventually the top-ranked prospect in the system. Years later, he continues to prove himself as one of the game’s great homegrown stars.
Eduardo Rodriguez adds feather to his cap
Rodriguez is the first Diamondbacks pitcher to make the All-Star Game since Zac Gallen in 2023.
Rodriguez entered Saturday fourth among qualified pitchers in the NL with a 2.21 ERA, as he has given up one or zero runs in 11 of his 17 starts. Tick that up to three runs, and that accounts for 14 of 17.
The D-backs are 13-4 in his appearances this season, as he has kept the team afloat during a difficult season, given the club’s pitching injuries and inconsistent offense.
“He’s been our rock,” Carroll said. “Every single time he’s gone out on the mound, he’s given us more than just a chance to win, but a likelihood of winning.”
Rodriguez has done this while on pace for a career-low strikeout rate and career-high walk rate. He has made big pitches when they count to escape danger and drawn weak contact to get through starts efficiently.
His 11 starts of six-plus innings are tied for sixth in the NL.
The Diamondbacks signed Rodriguez to a four-year, $80 million deal after their 2023 World Series run, and entering this season, that contract had looked like a dud. Rodriguez worked to get himself in better shape and further develop his arsenal with a curveball, and he took off after gaining confidence and insight during the World Baseball Classic with Team Venezuela and their pitching coach, Johan Santana.
“I feel like my best years in the league, it’s always been the second half,” Rodriguez said. “I think the last time I had a really good first half was with Detroit, my second year with Detroit, but it’s always been the second half when I was pitching great. It’s just a blessing, and I feel happy for it and hope to keep doing it the rest of the season.”
