D-backs place RHP Shelby Miller on 60-day DL

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-handed starting pitcher Shelby Miller on the 60-day disabled list Monday due to his Tommy John surgery rehab.

Miller had the surgery on May 10 of last year. He was weighing his options in late April after suffering a forearm flexor strain and a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow during his start that week against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In October, manager Torey Lovullo said Miller threw for the first time since he had the surgery.

Miller moving to the DL made room on the roster for signing outfielder Jarrod Dyson.

The 27-year-old Miller was coming off a disappointing 2016 campaign that did not meet the high expectations set after being acquired from the Atlanta Braves in December of 2015. Traded for No. 1 overall draft pick shortstop Dansby Swanson, outfielder Ender Inciarte and right-handed pitcher Aaron Blair, Miller went 3-12 with a 6.15 ERA in 20 starts and spent a portion of the season in Triple-A Reno.

In his four starts in 2017, Miller nearly reached his win total from 2016, going 2-2 with a 4.09 ERA. He did not allow more than three earned runs in any of the outings, earning a decision in all of the starts.
