Diamondbacks rally for 5 runs in 9th inning to walk-off Padres

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks stormed back to score five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and stun the San Diego Padres on Saturday, 8-7.

Geraldo Perdomo cleared the bases with a game-tying extra-base hit into the right-field corner, and he dove home ahead of the tag on a Josh Naylor tapper in the infield.

Naylor hit a walk-off grand slam in Monday’s 8-4 win over the Seattle Mariners and wasted little time recording his second walk-off as a Diamondback.

The Diamondbacks led 3-1 going into the sixth inning, but the Padres scored six unanswered runs. Manny Machado hit the go-ahead double in the seventh off Ryan Thompson after Zac Gallen loaded the bases.

The Padres put closer Robert Suarez in a 7-3 game with three outs to go.

Pavin Smith, Gabriel Moreno and Alek Thomas led off the frame with singles, bringing the tying run to the plate. Corbin Carroll struck out, and Ketel Marte beat out an infield single to cut the deficit to three runs.

Perdomo laced a liner into the right-field corner to tie the game, reaching third base as Fernando Tatis Jr. had troubled collecting the ball.

Naylor just put it in play, and Perdomo dove in for the victory.

Arizona has won five games in a row, improving to 36-34.
