Diamondbacks recall righty Cristian Mena, option Scott McGough to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks have called up right-hander Cristian Mena from Triple A-Reno ahead of Sunday's game against the Nationals.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have called up right-hander Cristian Mena from Triple A-Reno ahead of Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals, the team announced on Sunday.

Scott McGough was optioned to Reno in a corresponding move. McGough was sent down following his appearance on Saturday where pitched one inning, allowing three runs on three hits with three walks and striking one batter out in the Diamondbacks’ 11-7 loss to the Nationals.

Sunday’s move marks the second time Mena has been called up to the majors this season. Mena last pitched for the Diamondbacks on May 9 against the Los Angles Dodgers where he threw 3.2 shutout innings, striking out five batters and not allowing a hit.

The D-backs and Nationals wrap up a three-game series at Chase Field on Sunday at 1:10 p.m. Corbin Burnes will start against Nationals lefty Mitchell Parker as the Diamondbacks look to snap a four-game losing streak.
