The Arizona Diamondbacks called up right-handed pitcher Jose Cabrera to start the club’s series opener against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday, the team announced.
In a corresponding move, the D-backs optioned right-handed pitcher Drey Jameson to Triple-A Reno.
Cabrera will make his fifth start of the season and his first since early July. The 24-year-old holds a 5.60 ERA through his first four starts in the majors.
The young right-hander threw five scoreless innings in his MLB debut on June 21. In his three starts since, he’s allowed 11 earned runs across 12.2 innings, with nine strikeouts compared to seven walks.
Cabrera has a six-pitch arsenal, with his cutter and four-seam fastball making up about 50% of his usage. His most-used pitch, the four-seamer (26.2% usage), has a .333 batting average against, while his sweeper (16.1% usage) has been the strongest pitch in his limited action, with a .167 average against (.150 xBA) and a 43.8% whiff rate.
Cabrera’s last five starts with the Aces haven’t gone well. He’s given up 21 earned runs across his last 24.1 innings pitched. However, his strikeout-to-walk ratio (21-to-6) has been strong.
Jameson made one appearance for the Diamondbacks since he was activated from the 15-day IL Sunday. He pitched two innings Monday against the Chicago Cubs, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk.
Between battling injury and going up-and-down between the majors and minors, Jameson has pitched 19.1 innings in 2026 and holds a 5.12 ERA
Cabrera and the D-backs will face the Giants, who will start right-handed pitcher Landen Roupp, at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
Diamondbacks-Giants will be live on 98.7, Arizonasports.com and in the Arizona Sports app.
