Diamondbacks complete Lars Nootbaar trade by dealing top 20 prospect
The Diamondbacks traded pitching prospect Brian Curley to St. Louis, the third pitcher they sent for Lars Nootbaar.

The Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday announced the player to be named later who completes their trade deadline deal with the St. Louis Cardinals for outfielder Lars Nootbaar.
The D-backs traded pitching prospect Brian Curley to St. Louis, the third pitcher Arizona sent off in this trade:
- D-backs receive: OF Lars Nootbaar
- Cardinals receive: RHP Brian Curley, RHP Daniel Eagen, LHP Sandro Santana
MLB Pipeline had Curley ranked No. 20 on Arizona’s top 30 prospects list. Eagen was No. 5 as the trade headliner, while Santana was No. 26.
Nootbaar performed well with Arizona after a slow start.
He hit .244 with a .763 OPS, five home runs and 17 RBIs in 42 games played after the trade. He took on the lead-off role against righties and finished the year batting .283 with an .874 OPS over his last 31 games.
Nootbaar is signed through next season.
Curley was a third-round pick in 2025 out of Georgia who made 25 appearances (23 starts) this past season between High-A Hillsboro and Double-A Amarillo.
