Diamondbacks offense again quiet as Marlins secure sweep

The lack of offense continued for the Arizona Diamondbacks in Thursday’s 2-0 loss to the Miami Marlins.

Miami earned the sweep with the win, while Arizona now sits 34-34 amid a three-game losing streak.

Arizona accounted for just three hits throughout the game, with Ketel Marte recording a double and Jorge Barrosa and LuJames Groover adding a single apiece. As a team, Arizona struck out 13 times and registered three walks.

Arizona also couldn’t capitalize with runners in scoring position, going 0-for-7 in such opportunities. For the series, Arizona went 2-for-30 with runners in scoring position.

Getting out in front early continues to be an issue, too. Including Thursday’s showing, the Diamondbacks have led after four innings in all but two games across their past 16.

Diamondbacks’ Merrill Kelly bounces back

After allowing seven earned runs in his last outing against the Washington Nationals, starter Merrill Kelly turned it around on Thursday.

He didn’t earn the win but allowed just two earned runs on four hits in six innings (74 pitches). He struck out one and walked a pair.

What’s next for the Diamondbacks?

Arizona’s six-game road trip continues with a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds.

Once through that series, Arizona is back at Chase Field for a six-game homestand against the Los Angeles Angels (June 15-17) and Minnesota Twins (June 19-21).
