Diamondbacks land 15th pick in MLB Draft lottery
The Arizona Diamondbacks will pick 15th in the 2026 MLB Draft after the lottery took place at the winter meetings in Orlando on Tuesday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks received the No. 15 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft via the lottery on Tuesday at the winter meetings.
The D-backs entered the lottery with a 1.5% chance at winning the top overall pick, the 10th-best odds. Former third baseman Jake Lamb, recently hired to join the player development staff, represented Arizona at the event in Orlando.
The Chicago White Sox won the lottery, while the Tampa Bay Rays will pick second and Minnesota Twins third. The San Francisco Giants jumped up to the fourth overall selection despite entering the lottery with the 12th-best odds to win it.
The last-place Colorado Rockies were not eligible for the lottery due to repeat entry rules, and they landed the No. 10 pick.
The prize of next summer’s draft — which starts July 12 — is expected to be UCLA shortstop and Hamilton High School alum Roch Cholowsky.
Arizona will likely have three picks within the top 35, a golden opportunity to beef up the farm system. The D-backs received a competitive balance round A pick after the first round and are set to secure a compensatory selection for free agent pitcher Zac Gallen, unless he unexpectedly returns.
If Gallen signs for $50 million-plus, then the comp pick lands right after the first round.
Picking 15th is the earliest Arizona will draft since 2023, when it took Stanford shortstop Tommy Troy 12th overall in 2023. The D-backs drafted prep outfielder Slade Caldwell 29th overall with their first pick in 2024 and prep shortstop Kayson Cunningham 18th in 2025.

So if we draft a pitcher then we can schedule his Tommy John Surgery for 2029.
