Geraldo Perdomo, Corbin Carroll recognized as finalists for Hank Aaron Award

The Hank Aaron Award recognizes the best offensive season in both the American and National leagues annually, and Arizona Diamondbacks stars Geraldo Perdomo and Corbin Carroll were named NL finalists on Monday.

Ten sluggers from each league are on the ballot, which will be voted on by fans and a panel of Hall of Famers. The panel includes Derek Jeter, David Ortiz, Albert Pujols, Chipper Jones, Ken Griffey Jr. and Johnny Bench.

The NL finalists are: Perdomo, Carroll, Pete Alonso (Mets), Shohei Ohtani (Dodgers), Kyle Schwarber (Phillies), Juan Soto (Mets), Fernando Tatis Jr. (Padres), Kyle Tucker (Cubs), Trea Turner (Phillies) and Christian Yelich (Brewers).

There is an argument that Ketel Marte was a snub on this list, considering he ranked fourth in the NL in OPS (.893) with 28 home runs from a second baseman.

Ohtani is the likely winner, as the MVP favorite led the league with a 1.014 OPS, hit 55 home runs, stole 20 bags and scored a league-high 146 runs.

Perdomo and Carroll, however, getting recognition from the league as two of its best hitters is a prelude to an awards season that should feature them again in MVP voting, Silver Sluggers, All-MLB and potentially a Gold Glove candidacy for Carroll.

Perdomo broke out this season with an .851 OPS, .290 batting average, 20 home runs, 100 RBIs and 27 steals. Only Soto and Ohtani reached base at a higher clip than Perdomo’s .389.

The shortstop finished second to Ohtani in fWAR (7.5 to 7.1) and should be a finalist for the NL MVP.

Carroll finished fifth in the NL with an .883 OPS, as he clubbed 31 home runs, 32 doubles and 17 triples this season. Carroll also stole 32 stolen bases, becoming the first player in franchise history with a 30-30 season. He came in third among NL hitters in slugging percentage (.541), trailing Ohtani and Schwarber, who clubbed 55-plus home runs.

The Diamondbacks were the only team in the NL this season with three players ranked top 10 in OPS.

The award has been handed out since 1999, and Paul Goldschmidt is the only Diamondbacks player to have won it for his 2013 campaign.

The winner will be named on Nov. 13 during the MLB Awards show.
