Diamondbacks’ Ildemaro Vargas named NL Player of the Month

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Ildemaro Vargas was named National League Player of the Month on Monday.
The honor comes a week after Vargas took home NL Player of the Week.
Vargas, who just saw his 27-game hitting streak end over the weekend, has been on a tear this season.
Over 22 games in April, Vargas slashed .372/.393/.663 with a 1.056 OPS. He recorded 32 hits (five home runs), 19 RBIs and three walks to 11 strikeouts. He was easily one of Arizona’s biggest standouts a month into the season.
He continued his impressive stretch into May behind a four-hit game in Friday’s loss to the Chicago Cubs that pushed his average to .404 at the time. He also moved up Arizona’s leaderboard with the second-longest hitting streak in franchise history, passing Paul Goldschmidt.
The streak came to an end on Saturday, though Vargas got back to his hitting ways on Sunday behind a single.
For the year, Vargas is slashing .382/.406/.657 with a 1.063 OPS in 26 games played. Entering play Monday, he paces Major League Baseball in batting average and is third in OPS.
The Diamondbacks are off Monday ahead of six-game homestand against the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Mets.

HATE THEM !!! The only stat that matters is OBP, can this guy get on base AND do damage? If you can't get on base you aren't going to score. In 2026 Top 5 teams: Dodgers, Cubs, Astros, Braves, Pittsburgh. 4 out of 5 winning records. Bottom 5: Diamondbacks, Padres, Phillies, Mets, Giants. 4 out of 5 losing records.
I'm tired of either a strike out or a home run.
Hitting: Batting average, OBP, Avg with RISP and maybe SLG & OPS.
Pitching: ERA, WHIP.
Worthless: Launch angle, exit velocity, spin rate.
I don't need 50 stats to follow the game, the majority of them are just noise, unless your an announcer who has to talk every single second of every single inning.
Shut up and watch the game, I just need to know who's up, the count, previous at bat, batting avg, OBP, defense positioning, what inning is it, how many outs, is the batter hot or cold, stats against the pitcher he is facing. There so much information you can pass on to the fan, instead you are talking about things that have nothing to do with what is actually going on during the game. Yeah, tell an interesting story once in a while about one of the players. I don't want to know about the ball boy, or the ball boy's nickname and I definitely don't want to hear your stupid jokes.

I'm probably even older than you...I preferred managers yelling at umps, spitting, slow paced hot humid day games, fat pitchers who fumble like me with a bat, and belly slides.
I actually love the Game & the simple stats but not the expanded so much and not the obsessions with money and injuries....geez this is starting to sound like the Long Slow Kisses Bull Durham speech ramble.
