ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez listed Arizona Diamondback Jordan Lawlar as a player to watch during spring training.
Once upon a time, Lawlar was the top prospect in the Diamondbacks’ system, but the 23-year-old has had an up and down past four seasons after Arizona drafted him sixth overall in 2021, often battling to stay healthy as he battled a series of thumb and hamstring injuries.
Lawlar was limited to just 28 big-league games in 2025 and started 0-for-31 in the majors upon being called up, often struggling to hit breaking balls from major league pitchers. He struck out 26 times in 66 at-bats and slashed just .182/.257/.288, while recording a .545 OPS.
But Lawlar spent the offseason learning center field in winter ball.
Lawlar has featured predominantly as a shortstop throughout his career. He also played primarily as a shortstop a year ago with Tigres Del Licey but was starting for the Dominican Winter League ballclub this season as a center fielder.
Injuries to Arizona outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr., and more recently Corbin Carroll, and the Diamondbacks dealing away Jake McCarthy and Blaze Alexander has created openings in the outfield for Lawlar.
Gonzalez sees the outfield as Lawlar’s only opportunity to make it into Arizona’s lineup at the big-league level, with Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo and Nolan Arenado patrolling the infield.
With Ketel Marte staying put, Geraldo Perdomo locked up long term and Nolan Arenado added to the mix, the outfield is now his only path to real playing time. But if he can prove himself capable, he would solve the club’s massive need for a capable right-handed-hitting outfielder. Lawler will get his chance, now more than ever.

I truly hope that Lawlar can have a decent season of hitting .285 and having few errors in the field but I am not betting on it.

Yes they do it's sports media they are even less useful, truthful, or accurate than the "real" Urinelits.

3 games in winter ball ought to do it. He will master this position with that many games under his belt.
Seriously though....in hours of need with Carroll and Guriel not playing he has a real opportunity to play at the level and I hope he lifts to the level.
We traded McCarthy and Blaze and there was no interest in Lawler. That should hurt Lawler as a professional.
