X-rays negative for Jordan Lawlar after HBP, further evaluation scheduled for Friday

PHOENIX — To make matters worse for the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 17-2 blowout loss to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, outfielder Jordan Lawlar left the game after getting hit on the right hand/wrist area by a pitch in the seventh inning.

Manager Torey Lovullo said Lawlar’s X-rays came back negative, but he will get a CT scan on Friday morning.

“He’s feeling good, and we just want to make sure,” Lovullo said. “I think the CT scan gets very specific, and it’ll tell us exactly what’s going on there.”

Lawlar remained in the game as a runner before getting replaced on defense in left field by Tim Tawa. Lawlar declined to elaborate on the pain he was feeling, calling the CT scan precautionary.

“I want to play and I’m here to help this team win games as much as I can defensively, offensively,” Lawlar said. “I get a lot of joy from playing on that field, so I want to keep playing.”

Lawlar hit his first major league home run before the game got away from Arizona in the fifth inning.
