Ketel Marte, the Diamondbacks’ lead-off home run leader, hits Baltimore’s famed Eutaw Street

Ketel Marte will be etched into Oriole Park at Camden Yards lore by smashing a home run onto Baltimore’s famed Eutaw Street during the Diamondbacks’ game against the Orioles on Monday.

Marte crushed the first pitch of the game 443 feet to right field off Baltimore right-hander Dean Kremer, clearing the seats in right field for his 15th lead-off home run.

Marte led off Saturday’s game in Philadelphia with a home run, as well, becoming the Diamondbacks’ all-time leader in lead-off home runs. He passed Chris Young (13), although Corbin Carroll is not too far behind with nine.

When a batter hits a home run onto Eutaw Street, which sits between the ballpark and the Warehouse, they get a brass, baseball-shape plaque placed on the landing spot of their home run. Marte is the first player to hit a ball there this season and the first Diamondbacks player to do so in the club’s history.

Marte homered again in the third inning off Kremer, sending a ball 405 feet to right field. It did not quite meet the criteria for a second plaque, but it came close.

Monday was Marte’s 12th career game with multiple home runs, which is fifth in club history behind Luis Gonzalez (21), Steve Finley (16), Paul Goldschmidt (15) and Christian Walker (14).

There had been 134 home runs hit to Eutaw Street from 1992, when Oriole Park opened, through the end of last season. The names on the list of visiting players who have plaques is a real who’s who, including Ken Griffey Jr., David Ortiz, Jim Thome, Eddie Murray, Carlos Delgado and now Marte.
