Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte limps off field, exits game vs. Nationals

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte pulled up awkwardly while rounding the bases in the first inning against the Washington Nationals on Friday, eventually limping off the field into the dugout.

Marte was seen frustrated on second base and in the dugout. The D-backs later announced it was a left hamstring strain.

Utility infielder Garrett Hampson took Marte’s place on second base after the double then defensively at second as well.

Marte had appeared in all eight Diamondbacks games thus far, appearing as a designated hitter in one game and as a pinch hitter in another, spending the rest of the time at his spot on the right side of the middle infield.

The hit that saw the injury take place was his ninth in 26 at-bats for a .346 batting average to start the season.
