SCOTTSDALE — The Arizona Diamondbacks’ first Cactus League batting order closely resembles a potential Opening Day lineup, minus outfielders Corbin Carroll and Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
Second baseman and 2024 National League MVP finalist Ketel Marte will lead off at Salt River Fields against the Colorado Rockies, while trade-acquired first baseman Josh Naylor will make his Diamondbacks debut. Naylor will bat third after coming over from the Cleveland Guardians, for whom he made the All-Star Game for last year.
The outfield will consist of (left to right) Randal Grichuk, Alek Thomas and Jake McCarthy. Recently-extended shortstop Geraldo Perdomo returns to his spot in the nine-hole to flip the lineup.
They will face Colorado right-hander Bradley Blalock, who worked a 5.87 ERA in seven games last year for the Rockies.
Arizona ace right-hander Corbin Burnes, who signed a six-year, $210 million contract over the winter, is set to make his club debut for one inning on the mound, at his request. Behind Burnes, the D-backs will turn to a string of minor league arms.
