Arizona Diamondbacks’ 2025 Opening Day roster announced

The Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday announced their 26-man Opening Day roster ahead of their 2025 campaign starting with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.

Relief pitchers face the worst of the health issues of any position on the team to start 2025, with Jordan Montgomery out for the season (Tommy John surgery) and Kevin Ginkel beginning the year on the 15-day injured list.

As a result, Shelby Miller had a clearer path to making the roster as a reliever looking to make a better impression in Arizona his second time around. Recent signee Jalen Beeks was able to fit into the picture as well, as Kendall Graveman joined Montgomery and Ginkel as relievers on the mend.

Garrett Hampson is well in position to be Arizona’s utility infielder, taking over for last year’s Kevin Newman (now with the Los Angeles Angels) and beating out Ildemaro Vargas (now with Triple-A Reno) in the spring.

It once looked like Blaze Alexander was in line for the role, but an oblique strain derailed his spring training leaving him to begin his season on the IL.
