Diamondbacks trade Randal Grichuk to Royals in middle of game vs. Pirates
The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded Randal Grichuk to the Kansas City Royals, azcentral's Nick Piecoro first reported on Saturday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded Randal Grichuk to the Kansas City Royals, azcentral’s Nick Piecoro first reported on Saturday.
In the top of the fifth inning of D-backs vs. Pirates in Pittsburgh — Arizona eventually fell 2-0 — fellow Arizona players and manager Torey Lovullo were seen hugging Grichuk when the news appeared to break.
Randal Grichuk was just informed he was traded to the Royals in the middle of the game.
Teammates came over to wish him farewell.

In return, Arizona received prospect reliever Andrew Hoffmann, a member of the Royal’s Triple-A affiliate, Omaha Storm Chasers.
Hoffmann, the 14th-best Royals prospect per 2023 MLB rankings, will be assigned to Triple-A Reno, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.
Grichuk had a mutual option for the 2026 season after signing a one-year deal for $5 million in February.
In 69 games for the D-backs this season, Grichuk batted .243 and had 22 RBIs, 23 extra-base hits and 10 walks. He played all three outfield positions and was primarily a designated hitter (39 games).
He hit .276 with 19 home runs and 68 RBIs in 176 games with the D-backs since first signing as a free agent in February 2024.

Kind of crazy that they barely got more in return for Naylor, a 28 year old .300 hitter with power.
I'm giving away 'my age here, but what I miss most about my baseball experience was going to watch minor league games (Tucson Toro's) with my dad when I was growing up. Thrill of going to the ball park, hoping to snag a foul ball, watching the kids out there some of whom I would later see on TV in the bigs. I still get that thrill of just going to the ball park to see a Dbacks game. I don't get to many because I live in Show Low, but I usually get to two or three series a season. All those memories of going to games with my Dad when I was a kid. There's something about actually being at the games that brings it all back.
