Diamondbacks-Reds suspended with rain in Cincinnati

After six innings, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ game against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark on Friday was delayed due to rain. The game was later suspended to Saturday, when they will pick up the action before starting the second game of this series.

Friday’s contest will resume Saturday at 11:10 a.m. MST. The next game will commence approximately 40 minutes after the first ends but not before 1:10 p.m. MST, when it was initially scheduled.

Tonight’s #Reds-Diamondbacks game has been suspended due to rain. The suspended game from tonight will resume tomorrow at 2:10 PM ET and the regularly scheduled game will begin approximately 40 minutes after the suspended game ends (but not prior to 4:10 PM ET).

The D-backs took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, looking to win their fifth straight ballgame after sweeping the Atlanta Braves. With the rain coming down, the Reds tied the game on a Christian Encarnacion-Strand solo shot off D-backs pitcher Cristian Mena.

By the end of the sixth inning, puddles started to form along the infield. Lightning was previously visible beyond center field.

The tarp then came onto the field. The Diamondbacks dealt with a rain delay on Wednesday in Atlanta but were able to play a complete game once the inclement weather passed.

There was an opportunity to call the game after the fifth inning, once the game became “official” after both teams made 15 outs and one was ahead. The rain started to come down much heavier after that point.

Once the delay began, the Reds entertained fans waiting with a fireworks show through the rain. It was Friday Night Fireworks, after all.

Diamondbacks hit back-to-back home runs

As for the game itself (so far), Diamondbacks infielders Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo blasted back-to-back home runs to give Arizona a 3-0 lead in the third inning.

Marte — starting Friday’s game as a designated hitter — mashed a curveball from Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo over the wall in left field, his 12th home run since he returned from the injured list on May 2. He has homered in three of four games to start this road trip.

Perdomo attacked a first-pitch fastball in the zone and shot it out to left-center field. That was his second career home run off a lefty and his seventh long ball of the season, which set a career high.

D-backs starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez returned from the injured list and tossed five innings with two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts. He did not walk a batter.

Diamondbacks C Gabriel Moreno exits after wild pitch hits bare hand

During the rainy sixth inning, D-backs catcher Gabriel Moreno exited the game after a curveball from Mena bounced and hit his bare right hand.

Jose Herrera entered in his place.

Both games on Saturday will air on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app.
