Diamondbacks report dates for spring training announced

Major League Baseball on Wednesday revealed report dates for spring training next month, and Feb. 10 is the one to circle for Arizona Diamondbacks fans.

D-backs pitchers and catchers will report and go through their first workouts on Feb. 10, when Merrill Kelly makes his official return to the team. The first full squad workouts are on Feb. 15, with Nolan Arenado taking his new spot as the Diamondbacks’ third baseman.

Photo day is on Feb. 18, and Arizona’s first Cactus League game is on Feb. 20 against the Colorado Rockies at Salt River Fields. The mitts are practically popping already.

The D-backs play 32 exhibition games before Opening Day, including a matchup with Team Mexico ahead of the World Baseball Classic (March 3) and two games against the Cleveland Guardians at Chase Field to end the preseason slate (March 23-24).

The regular season starts on March 26, when the Diamondbacks visit the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Diamondbacks are among the first teams to report to camp, alongside the Red Sox, White Sox, Rangers, Braves and Giants.

Pitchers and catchers participating in the World Baseball Classic have to report to camp by Feb. 11 regardless of club, while WBC-bound position players have to report by Feb. 12.

Desert Invitational schedule

Before Cactus League games begin, several spring training ballparks will host college games as part of the annual Desert Invitational from Feb. 13-16.

Eight teams will participate in the event: Grand Canyon, Penn State, Northeastern, Iowa, Air Force, Kansas State, UConn and Nebraska. Games will take place at Salt River Fields, Sloan Park, GCU, Goodyear Ballpark and Scottsdale Stadium.
