Former D-back Eugenio Suarez hits 50th home run of 2025 at site of MLB debut

It took him until his 10th at-bat of the series and postseason, but the wait was worth it for former Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez on Tuesday night in Detroit.

He cranked his 50th home run of 2025 in an 8-4 ALDS Game 3 win for the Seattle Mariners over the Tigers.

The solo bomb to left field off of right-hander Jack Flaherty traveled an estimated 422 feet at the ballpark where Suarez made his MLB debut back on June 4, 2014.

His latest home run gave Seattle a 3-0 advantage with no outs in the fourth inning.

It was Suarez’s second long ball of his postseason career (now four appearances), with his only other coming also in a Mariners uniform in Game 1 of the 2022 ALDS against the Houston Astros.

Before spending a season and a half in Arizona, Suarez was with Seattle from 2022 to 2023.

“Stunned silence for the Tiger fans and the Seattle faithful who made the trip (are) ignited after their prodigal son comes away with a solo shot,” said play-by-play broadcaster Adam Amin.

Before being shipped away at this year’s trade deadline, Suarez had hit 36 home runs for the Diamondbacks, notably posting a four-homer game against the Atlanta Braves on April 26.

In the 53 regular season games since leaving the desert for the Puget Sound, the hard-hitting third baseman regressed a bit with two months of batting sub-.200 and no higher than .700 OPS after a summer of hovering near a .250 batting average and nuclear 1.000 OPS.
