Suns rookie Koa Peat throws Diamondbacks-Brewers 1st pitch to kick off Fourth of July series
Koa Peat, a local success story turned Suns rookie, threw out the first pitch on Friday to get a series between the Diamondbacks and Brewers underway.

Koa Peat, the No. 30 pick by the Phoenix Suns, got the Fourth of July series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers underway by throwing out Friday’s ceremonial first pitch.
He tossed a ball to fellow former Arizona Wildcat and D-backs reliever Kevin Ginkel donning a white Diamondbacks jersey with No. 18 on the back, the same number he will wear as an NBA rookie.

Did he have any prior experience throwing a baseball? Sort of.
“I played coach pitch, so I haven’t played for a while,” Peat told reporters after the special moment.
His moment in front on the mound at Chase Field took place ahead of 24-year-old Jose Cabrera making his third start for Arizona.
The former one-and-done Wildcats forward was grabbed as the final first-round draft pick after Phoenix traded up from No. 47 with the New York Knicks. He will get his first taste of pro action on July 10 against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Suns’ first opponent of this year’s NBA Summer League.
Peat, 19, is among the few in the league to have played their high school (Gilbert Perry High School) and college ball in their home state before also being selected by their hometown team.
The 6-foot-7, 245-pound forward has won on nearly every level, from four state championships to four gold medals with Team USA Basketball. He was nearly a part of Arizona’s second-ever national championship, reaching the Final Four against eventual champion, Michigan.
