Diamondbacks re-sign Taylor Rashi, add INF Jacob Amaya to minor league deals

The Arizona Diamondbacks have re-signed pitchers Taylor Rashi and Tommy Henry and added reliever Gerardo Carrillo and infielder Jacob Amaya to minor league deals, Triple-A Reno announced on Friday.

They each received invitations to major league spring training.

None of the four players are on the 40-man team, as three of the four will be given the chance to compete for a roster spot in spring. That excludes Henry, who underwent Tommy John surgery this past summer and will assuredly miss most of, if not all of, the 2026 season.

Rashi returns after he was non-tendered to open a roster spot last month. The 29-year-old made his MLB debut for the Diamondbacks last season and performed well in a short sample size with the big league club.

He recorded a nine-out save in his debut against the Milwaukee Brewers, the top team by record in the National League.

The right-hander finished with a 4.41 ERA in 10 appearances, but predictive stats suggest he was better than that with a 1.91 FIP (fielding-independent pitching). He struck out 22 batters in 16.1 innings and walked eight, and he did not surrender a home run.

Rashi leans heavily on his four-seamer and splitter, as he will continue to provide bullpen depth for the D-backs.

Diamondbacks sign former White Sox infielder Jacob Amaya

Amaya has played 64 MLB games over the past three seasons with the Marlins, Astros and White Sox.

He is a versatile defensive player with innings logged at second base, shortstop and third base over the course of his career, but he’s mostly played shortstop at the big league level. He will compete for a backup role behind middle infielders Geraldo Perdomo and Ketel Marte.

The 27-year-old has not hit MLB pitching with a career .147 batting average in 154 plate appearances.

Amaya was considered a top 10 prospect in the Marlins’ farm system by MLB Pipeline in 2023.

Diamondbacks take flier on reliever

Carrillo has yet to make his MLB debut at 27 years old, but there have been moments when he was considered a promising prospect.

Carrillo was the seventh-ranked prospect in the Nationals’ system as of 2022 after coming over in the Trea Turner, Max Scherzer blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The selling point was an explosive fastball that could reach the upper 90s mph and wipeout slider.

Then, injuries started to pile up. Carrillo made 21 appearances in 2022, two in 2023 and none in 2024.

He came back with the Texas Rangers’ system in 2025, where he made 42 appearances with a 4.44 ERA, striking out 10.4 hitters per nine innings and saving seven games. He gave up two earned runs in 20.1 innings across July and August and finished the year in Triple-A, throwing more cutters and splitters while mixing in a 96-97 mph four-seamer.

A native of Guadalajara, Mexico, he has continued to put in work with Charros De Jalisco in the Mexican Pacific Winter League.

The Diamondbacks are taking a flier here for bullpen depth. Juan Morillo signed a minor league deal with the club a year ago, and he became an intriguing arm with a mighty fastball.
