Diamondbacks trade INF Luis Urías to Blue Jays for cash considerations

The Arizona Diamondbacks sent infielder Luis Urías to the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, according to the MLB transactions page.

Arizona got back cash in the deal for the 29-year-old who did not suit up for the franchise at the major league levels, but is now active with Toronto’s big-league club for Monday’s game.

The Diamondbacks signed Urías to a minor league contract in March after he most recently played for the Oakland Athletics. He spent much of his Arizona tenure on the Triple-A Reno Aces’ injured list.

He began the season on the seven-day IL and was sent to a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League about five weeks later. Reno activated Urías 10 days after that. He played 27 games for the Aces and had a .939 OPS.

Urías has averaged 63 games per season over the previous three campaigns before not seeing any time in the majors this year.

The most consistent stretch of his career came with the Milwaukee Brewers (330 regular-season games over 2020-23), including a two-year stretch (2021-22) with 39 home runs and 122 RBIs combined.

The move is a minor league tweak for an organization that will face tough decisions as the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline approaches.
