Wild Card standings: D-backs miss postseason
It came down to the final day of the regular season, but the Diamondbacks came up just short of a postseason berth for the third year in a row.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have lingered in the thick of the NL Wild Card hunt for the fourth straight season.
Reaching the postseason came down to the final week in each of the past three seasons. While a World Series appearance followed in 2023, the D-backs feel short in the standings in 2026 for a third straight year.
The D-backs have dealt with adversity throughout this season, including star second baseman Ketel Marte no-showing his team in the heart of the playoff chase and plenty of injuries to starting pitchers. Manager Torey Lovullo’s and general manager Mike Hazen’s jobs could be at risk since Arizona fell short this time around, especially with the skipper’s contract ending after 2026.
The Chicago Cubs clinched a spot in the postseason with a win over the Miami Marlins on Thursday. The San Diego Padres also clinched a playoff spot with a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday.
The Philadelphia Phillies clinched the final Wild Card spot on Sunday with a win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Arizona owned the divisional record tiebreaker over the Phillies and needed a Philadelphia loss combined with a win of its own on the final day of the regular season to make the postseason.
