The Mexican Pacific League, a professional winter league, officially announced it will debut its first international squad, the Tucson Baseball Team, starting in the 2025-26 season.

The Tucson Baseball Team, which was previously known as the Mayos de Navojoa, will relocate to Tucson and play in the Liga ARCO Mexican del Pacifico (LAMP) at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium, a venue that holds a capcity of 11,500 fans at the main stadium of the Kino Sports Complex.

The stadium was previously the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ minor-league affiliate, the Tucson Sidewinders, from 1998-2008 before the Triple-A club moved to Reno.

The Tucson Baseball Team is expected to rename itself after receiving feedback from fans in its new locale.

The team’s owner said the move out of Navojoa, which was the smallest city in the league, was to enter a larger market. The decision to move to Tucson was initially announced in May.

LAMP is Mexico’s premier winter professional baseball league, which started in 1945.

The league runs from October through January and is operated primarily in the northwestern region of Mexico, with five states in Mexico and now Arizona represented by the 10 teams. The Tucson Baseball Team is the newest addition to the league and will compete for a chance to represent Mexico in the 2025 Caribbean Series.
