Suns’ Cody Martin out, Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama doubtful for first game back from All-Star break

The Phoenix Suns debut for trade deadline acquisition Cody Martin (sports hernia) will have to wait further, as he remains out for Thursday’s return to action against the San Antonio Spurs.
San Antonio superstar Victor Wembanyama is doubtful for the contest with an undisclosed illness that has puzzled Spurs reporters. He missed a game on Feb. 1 citing illness but has played in all six Spurs games since, and he scored 17 points in the All-Star games on Sunday.
Martin has been sidelined since suffering his injury five minutes into a Jan. 24 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers while still a member of the Charlotte Hornets. He was traded seven games into what will be a 12-game absence after Thursday.
Two-way wing Jalen Bridges was also ruled out for the contest with a G League designation. However, fellow two-ways TyTy Washington Jr. and Collin Gillespie, who have gotten minutes with Phoenix in recent games, appear to be available.
Four Suns who were out for the final game before the break — Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Grayson Allen and Vasilije Micic, who also came along with Martin and has not yet made his team debut — were not listed on the injury report.
The game will be held in Austin, where Kevin Durant played his college ball as a Texas Longhorn.

Suns have to win tonight, if they don't, they'll be tied with the Spurs in the loss column, 2 games behind the Warriors and the Kings who play tomorrow in SacTown.
Williams teammates all approached him and welcomed him back. Williams initially didn't want to play for Charlotte again. Moussa Diabate is still the Hornets center for their future. The irony is that Jusuf Nurkic will become the Hornets 3rd string center when all three are healthy.
