Report: Collin Gillespie re-signs with Suns on 4-year deal

Collin Gillespie and the Phoenix Suns have agreed to a four-year, $48 million deal on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The point guard was entering free agency after a career year in which he averaged 12.7 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

The 26-year-old Gillespie and fellow guard Jordan Goodwin were priorities for Phoenix to retain after a 45-win season, reported Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, and the team worked quickly to get a deal done in the early negotiation window.

Gillespie, who went undrafted in 2022 following a five-year career at Villanova, began his NBA journey with a two-year stint as a two-way player with the Denver Nuggets (24 games played). He joined Phoenix on a two-way deal in 2024-25.

Despite a leg injury that took out a chunk of his first season in the Valley, he averaged 5.9 points and 2.4 assists per game, earning nine starts late in the year under then-coach Mike Budenholzer. That propelled him into a standard NBA contract with the Suns heading into last season.

He more than produced on a minimum contract, starting 58 games and appearing in 80 total.

Gillespie set Phoenix’s single-season 3-point make record in the process, knocking down 232 for the year and at a 40% clip while taking 7.2 per game.

While not a primary play-maker, Gillespie became an elite spot-up shooter — he was sixth in catch-and-shoot percentage among players with at least 75 3-point attempts — and a connector more than a dominant pick-and-roll ball-handler. It was a fine profile for someone playing alongside Devin Booker, Jalen Green and even Dillon Brooks.

Gillespie also impacted the defensive end despite his listing at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds as a disruptive point-of-attack disruptor.

Because the Suns held Gillespie’s early Bird rights, he was eligible to earn as much as $66.6 million over four years and was the Suns’ most high-profile free agent.
