Suns rule Devin Booker out, Jalen Green out for Tuesday vs. Trail Blazers

The Phoenix Suns ruled All-Star Devin Booker out and guard Jalen Green out for Tuesday's road game at the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Phoenix Suns ruled All-Star Devin Booker out and guard Jalen Green out for Tuesday’s road game at the Portland Trail Blazers.

Booker will miss his sixth straight game with a sprained right ankle, and the Suns have gone 3-2 without him in this stretch.

Green continues to be a mainstay on the injury report due to right hamstring injury management and a right hip contusion after he took a hard fall on Friday against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He did not play in Phoenix’s 117-93 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday after playing 15:34 against Cleveland.

The first-year Sun has been held to five games played this season primarily due to hamstring issues.

Trail Blazers could be shorthanded vs. Suns

Portland will also enter the matchup shorthanded, having ruled All-Star Deni Avdija out with a lower back strain. Avdija, who is averaging a career-high 25.5 points and 6.7 assists per game this season, did not dress on Sunday for a Trail Blazers loss to Cleveland.

Scoot Henderson, who has not played a game this year, is out with a left hamstring tear.

Veteran guard Jrue Holiday is questionable for personal reasons.

Forwards Kris Murray (lumbar strain) and Matisse Thybulle (right knee tendinopathy) are out, as is point guard Damian Lillard, who has not played this season after tearing his left Achilles.

Phoenix defeated Portland 127-110 in their first matchup of this season back on Nov. 18.

Tuesday’s game tips off at 9 p.m. MST. It will air nationally on NBC with streaming on Peacock while remaining available locally on AZ Family 3TV and Suns+.

The game will also air on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app.

For you longtime Suns fans the irony of the Suns historical quest for a stud PF to pair with center Alvan Adams and others dates back fifty years.

Pre AA, JC signed Gus Johnson whose knees were shot by the time he tried to play for Phoenix.

The 4th overall pick in 1974, John Shumate. Coincidently today is the one-year anniversary of his passing. RIP John Shumate.

JC acquiring Leonard "Truck" Robinson.

Swapping "Truck" for Maurice Lucas. RIP.

2nd overall pick in 1987 Armen Gilliam. RIP.

The mediocre signings like Jeff Cook and Georgi Glushkov.

The spectacularly failed draft picks - Malcolm Mackey & Mario Bennett.

Jerrod Mustaf who is best known for being in the center of the controversy of the murder of his pregnant girlfriend, Althea Hayes. Mustaff was the original Rae Carruth except Mustaff was never charged or tried for the murder. Mustaff passed away a little over a year ago.

I agree that he’s learned to curtail his team-building microwavability (I think Brian Gregory has done a lot to stabilize Ishbia); let’s next hope that Ishbia learns to trim his excitability to the media.

If he could pair Booker w Antetokounmpo, that would be obviously better than a Green-Antetokounmpo pairing, but a Green-centric trade package would also likely mean gutting the in-sync rotational defensive depth that the Suns have developed, and that would take us right back to Durant-Booker (pre-Beal) and a second-round exit, unless they involved a third team.

The latest that I’m hearing is that the Bucks may now be leaning towards standing pat, unfortunately, hoping to engage more teams in the summer. I still think that will ultimately backfire on MIL because quantity (larger pool) often dilutes quality (of trade offers) because Antetokounmpo (and the teams making offers) will have leverage in summer, assuming that he eventually “demands” a trade (as opposed to a “meek” request or a mere intimation); otherwise, without a vocal demand, other teams can’t pounce on MIL, and trade idealizations, like Booker for Antetokounmpo, will have no leverage to stand on.
