Suns reportedly waive wing Haywood Highsmith, opening roster spot

The Phoenix Suns waived wing Haywood Highsmith after he appeared in 10 games last season, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto first reported Wednesday.

Highsmith was under contract for 2026-27 with $1 million of his $3 million salary guaranteed.

Phoenix signed the six-year NBA veteran to a two-year, veteran’s minimum contract in February, about six months after he had surgery to repair a torn meniscus while with the Miami Heat.

Highsmith shot 42.1% from 3 and provided perimeter defense help in his limited action for Phoenix. 

Miami traded him to the Brooklyn Nets one week after the surgery, and Brooklyn announced two months later he had a setback and would remain sidelined.

He first appeared for Phoenix on March 6, logging just two seconds. He played double-digit minutes in five of the seven regular-season games he played and had a Suns career high of 16 points on March 16 against the Boston Celtics.

After appearing in six games out of a seven-game stretch in March, Highsmith did not see the floor for 12 straight contests before playing 10 minutes in the regular-season finale.

He also saw 10 minutes in the play-in win over the Golden State Warriors before appearing in two playoff games against the Oklahoma City Thunder, totaling about 10 minutes.
