Jalen Green slams down Collin Gillespie delivery in win over Kings

Phoenix Suns guard Jalen Green received a lob up top from Collin Gillespie and slammed it home in the second quarter of Tuesday night’s 114-103 win at the Sacramento Kings (14-49).

The ferocious dunk by Green, which was a welcome sight for Phoenix given his injury-plagued season, gave the Suns a four-point edge in a contested opening half. The Suns (35-26) held that advantage, 59-55, into the break.

Gillespie got the transition opportunity rolling by pick-pocketing former Sun Drew Eubanks and taking it up the right sideline. He identified Green on his left and the young star finished.

The slam was Green’s third made bucket of the night, the guard closing the game with 20 points (7-of-16 shooting) and making all four of his free-throw attempts. He himself had four steals.

Devin Booker returned after a four-game absence due to a right hip strain, the perennial NBA All-Star appearing in the starting five and getting 31 minutes. He had 17 points (on 6-of-19 shooting), six assists and four rebounds.

With his four made 3s, Booker notably joined Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry and Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard as the only NBA players with 1,500 3s and 17,000 points in 720 career games or fewer.

Second-year pro Oso Ighodaro more than doubled his season averages for points and rebounds in his 26 minutes off the bench, with 14 apiece and eight of his rebounds being offensive. He contributed three assists, too.
